A Blast While It Lasted

about

The captain's ship was sharing rations of food with the girl's ship. They had essentially moved in with each other. The girl showed the captain many new things. The main being old movies, especially this one about being so very different from others, yet being almost the exact same. The captain didn't quite know why, but this movie's idea seemed to stick with him as he watched the girl make the bed not out of obligation, but out of the desire to make him happy and to further secure the integrity of the ship. She would look at him, with a smirk, assembling a pseudo-insult in her mind, but then her eyes would slant into concern as she looked behind him at his wall full of taped up memories, primarily of troubles communicating with others and getting ideas across. The captain observed the melting of the insult and wanted to cover up his wall, he knew what she was seeing, and he wanted her to understand that he had great flaws, but he didn't want her to know of his want. But he let her see anyway. He felt like she had been in a similar position long ago.
He then was startled as the alarms went off again, but this time, for gravitation. He checked the analysis on the dashboard. They were out of fuel on both ships and accelerating toward the Green-Blue planet. They had no way to be sure they would survive the fall.
"It was a blast while it lasted." The captain announced to the girl and the ship.
The captain took the controls and shifted them so that the ship would have more air resistance, the ship itself became noticeably hotter. The girl became unnerved at what was happening. The captain was steering both ships through the controls of one. There was a lot of sound and it was growing more intense as the ship sped up.
They were soon at tree level, speeding through a rain forest chopping down trees with the wings of the ships. Then they collided with the water.
They were skipping across the top like a record setting rock.
