Preemptive Strike

about

The boarding sirens blare until the captain is jolted awake.
"What? Someone's boarding?" The captain checks the analysis. It's an alien ship. He grabs his clothes, tosses them on in a flash and reaches for his holster, "Great." The command took his only gun. Luckily, he always had an incapacitator on board. The captain picked it out of the mess of wrappers on the dash and was off to confront the invaders. Running through the spacecraft's flashing red corridors, he made note of the fact that it could be someone who received his distress signal, "But why would they be manning an alien spacecraft?"
He came to terms with the fact that it was probably an ambush and hid behind the corner just before the reception area on his ship.
He hears the door slide open, then shut. Then footsteps. They have a normal gait. A human gait. Then they stop.
They stop right on the other side of the corner. Then there's silence. What if it's a space pirate? They're mugging me on my own defenseless ship!
He jumps around the corner.
Aims.
Fires.
Regrets.
The captain was remorseful as his fingers pulled the trigger. His target wasn't a space pirate. They were actually exactly human. In fact, they were so human, it was attractive.
And as the target's body fell onto the floor, with a sound that was not pleasant, he really examined the situation. The captain's heart, he believes, shattered at that moment... Because even though he didn't really love people, this one was different. Even lying there unconscious...

She was beautiful.
