Resonate in the Moment

about

Upon analysis of the situation the Captain was landed in, he felt immense respect for the way things turned out. While he was capable of great things, thorough understanding of complex concepts, assembling of algorithms... He realized it was all to fill a hole in his heart.
His capabilities were directly proportional to his lack of love, received or given. He had always been trying to push his limits further, in hopes of feeling complete on his achievements. He engaged in indefinite processes to distract himself from the basic process of connecting and sharing with someone else. His love capabilities atrophied.
But, he was saved from infinity by chaos, it would seem.
And as he felt the girl's heartbeat echo his own, he knew that everything would work out in the end. And if it didn't, as long as he had her, he wouldn't care.
The Captain found the girl missing from bed one night. A little confused, he left the makeshift home and searched for her. It wasn't hard to find her, though.
He walked up to her side at the beach they had skipped rocks at many nights ago. She was a bit emotional, looking into the ocean before her.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing's *wrong*."
"Well, what is it?"
She pointed toward the body of water, "Have you ever seen something so beautiful?"
He was a little surprised at what he saw. It looked like LEDs in the water, far below the surface. It was the fish. They were putting on a show. They were communicating to each other through... emoticons?
They were fish composed of circuitry. They were searching for mates through his home world's standard unicode emoticon language.
They watched as the ocean came to life with expressions from the home world in neon coloring from beneath the surface of the water. Eventually, they would pair up and disappear, but the show was baffling.
In response to her question, he nodded and clasped her hand,
"That and then some."
